The Passionists -

St. Paul of the Cross Province

Our province uses the media to bring the message of Christ to the others. Begun in 1921, The Sign Magazine became a common fixture in many Catholic homes as a vehicle of Passionist preaching and sharing the faith.  In 1954, we began the “Crossroads” radio program, and in 1957 the “Chalice of Salvation” televised mass first aired.

Besides the Chalice of Salvation produced and televised from Springfield, Massachusetts, on Sunday mornings, the mass is broadcast Sundays through Passionist Communications in Pelham, New York, and daily from St. Ann’s Basilica in Scranton, Pennsylvania.  Now, thanks to the Internet, we reach  across the globe and attract faithful viewers from China to the Czech Republic, and from Pennsylvania to the Philippines.

Through the media, the mass reaches many who are homebound, ill or hospitalized. Besides these ministries, a growing number of Passionist web sites bring the message of Christ to today’s world.

Passionists write books on justice and poverty, on the environment and scripture, on theology and morality.  Passionist Press, in Union City, NJ distributes many of these titles every year. It also distributes Compassion, a quarterly magazine available in print and on the Internet, that chronicles stories and issues involving our ministries.
