Frequently Asked Questions about Wills

Do I really need a Will?

Yes, a Will allows you to specify how your assets are to be distributed after your death. This pre-planning establishes your exact desire, so that your state's probate tax process does not override your wishes.

Is an attorney necessary?

The laws of each state vary. A local attorney knows what is legal to guide you through determining how to transfer your assets to your family, friends and charities. By putting your affairs in order, you will create a legal record that will accurately reflect all of your wishes.

How expensive is setting up a Will?

Not as expensive as you may think. Your attorney knows your wishes as well as the probate laws and can structure your Will to your best advantage. Also, the absence of a Will can greatly increase the probate costs.

I am on a fixed income. Can I help?

It may be easier for you to give through your Will than to give a monetary gift at this time.

Through your gift by Will to the Passionists, you will have a nice, warm feeling knowing that you have left a lasting reminder of your love for others less fortunate. You will live on through the good works of our priests, brothers and Passionist associates.

How can I take care of my family and help the Passionists?

We understand that you may have other priorities for family and friends in your Will. We ask that you consider a gift by Will to our work either as a specific gift amount, or perhaps have the Passionists named as receiving the rest and remainder of your estate after your family priorities are met.

How will my gift help the Passionists?

Our Passionist priests are totally dependent on the generosity of donors. Your gift by Will allows us to conduct our retreats, expand youth ministries, continue our preaching ministry, run overseas missions, and operate our domestic and international volunteer programs.

Today, from Canada to Florida, and in five foreign missions, Passionist priests and brothers are engaged in the ministries of the Eastern Province of St. Paul of the Cross. Your gift by Will, small or large, will allow us to continue Our Lord's work.

Do I need to redraft my Will to be able to help the Passionists?

No, simply send the correct legal language (on the next page) to your attorney and have an addition (codicil) attached to your Will, which reflects your wishes. Your support is our future.
