Passionist Society of Prayer

The Passionists are introducing a new selection of enrollment cards.

Available now are, “In Deepest Sympathy” and four cards for Christmas.

“In Deepest Sympathy” is a perpetual enrollment in the Passionist Society of Prayer. On the cover of this multi-page card you will see the beautiful Passion Flower. Legend has it that missionaries used this unique flower to teach people about the Passion of Christ. The Passion Flower represents our motto:

“May the Passion of Christ be always in our hearts.”

Benefits of Enrollment in The Passionist Society of Prayer.

  • Perpetual Remembrance in Daily Holy Mass
  • Perpetual Remembrance in Masses, Prayers and Good Works of the Passionist Priests, Brothers and Seminarians.
  • Enrollee’s name is inscribed in the Passionist Book of Remembrance, which is placed on the altar honoring our beloved deceased.
The cards for Christmas include a remembrance for one year in the daily Masses, prayers, and good works of the Passionist priests and brothers of the Province of St. Paul of the Cross.

We will be adding new cards to this new collection regularly, each uniquely beautiful and available only from the Passionists.

Cards may be ordered on-line at our Passionist Society of Prayer web-site or by phone toll free: 1-888-806-6606.

Resources for the Third Edition of the Roman Missal

Here are some resources to help prepare for the Third Edition of the Roman Missal over the next few months:

  1. THE MISSAL: Seven publishers in the USA have been given permission to publish the missal. Each will have its own variations in size, art work and typography. These will not be available for acquisition until October but may be ordered now. One of the publishers, Liturgical Press (Collegeville) has commissioned Bro. Martin Erspamer to do the art work. He is well known for his art in parish bulletins and other books published through Liturgy Training Publications in Chicago. Liturgical Press is offering a 30% pre-order discount through July 1. They have 2 editions: The Ritual Edition (larger) and the Chapel Edition (smaller). Find more information at www.TheRomanMissal.org or http://www.litpress.org
  2. PEW CARDS: It seems these will be necessary for all of us for a while and they are available in four different options and colors. Packs of 50 are $15. http://www.liturgicalcommission.org/catalog.asp?categoryid=19
  3. MUSICAL SETTINGS OF THE NEW MASS: Oregon Catholic Press http://www.ocp.org has produced a CD with several new and revised settings of Mass acclamations. In a recent article in Pastoral Music it was suggested that trying to put the new words to old settings might be more confusing in that we would be prone to singing the words we were used to before. The suggestion was that it might be best to begin with a brand new setting composed specifically for the new words and not adapted. GIA http://www.giamusic.com and WLP http://www.wlp.jspaluch.com have revised settings of all of their masses. GIA, for example, has a revised setting of the Mass of Creation and many others.
  4. UNDERSTANDING THE TEXTS: A good resource is published by LTP http://www.LTP.org entitled Understanding the Revised Mass Texts written by Fr. Paul Turner.
  5. OTHER RESOURCES: Other texts of the Mass and presider’s prayers are available on the USCCB website http://www.usccb.org/romanmissal/

At a recent conference on the Roman Missal, Fr. Paul Turner suggested that priests might pray aloud a portion of the translation each day to become accustomed to the rhythm and style of the prayers. It seems like a rudimentary exercise but he advises priests not to think they can go into the Mass and make sense of these translations without practicing the texts beforehand.

I hope some of this may be helpful.
